How does a person with chronic kidney disease (CKD) feel?

Most people may not have serious symptoms until their kidney disease progresses.

However, you may notice that:

  • You feel weak and tire easily
  • You are less resistant to infections (you get ill more easily)
  • You find it difficult to concentrate and remember things
  • Your appetite lessens and you have problems sleeping
  • You experience menstrual abnormalities, decreased sexual desire or impotence
  • You get cramps in your muscles, usually at night
  • Your feet swell and you have rough skin on them
  • You itch a lot
